Mamaw Liza Jane

Mamaw Liza Jane lives in a cozy home in the mountains of Southwest Virginia, and her grandbabies are her whole world. They change the way the world feels. She likes to tease her own children that if she could have skipped them and gone straight to the grandbabies, she would have! Every Sunday, all five are right there with her in church. And every evening, with her Bible beside the glowing lantern, she gathers them close to share the stories of Jesus.

Reuben is Mamaw's very first grandchild, and he's always on the go. Ball practice, a game in the yard, a race up the hill: he never slows down. But when Mamaw opens her Bible, he's right there beside her. Reuben has a heart for God and loves asking the big questions.

Rachel · 13

Reuben's little sister Rachel used to be the shy one. Not anymore! Now she says exactly what she thinks, and Mamaw never knows what will come out next. She's smart and sporty like her big brother, always ready for the next game. When Mamaw reads, though, Rachel is all ears, and she always has something to say about the story.

Keziah · 10

Keziah is Reuben and Rachel's cousin, the oldest in her family, and the most tender-hearted of all Mamaw's grandchildren. She loves her tablet and games a little too much, so Mamaw's rule is simple: screens go down when the Bible comes out. Once the story starts, Keziah forgets all about them. She feels every part of it, and she's the first to give a hug when someone needs one.

Susanna · 9

Susanna is Keziah's little sister and Mamaw's wild little redhead, full of fire and always in the middle of the fun. She's smart and sassy, and she knows just how to use that redhead charm to get away with things. It works on Mamaw more often than it should! But when the Bible comes out, Susanna can hardly wait to hear what happens next. She's usually the one bouncing on her knees, asking, "Then what happened?"

Silas · 5

Silas is the littlest, and he runs wide open from the minute he wakes up. He's always the center of attention without even trying. One look at that grin and the whole room is laughing. When it's time for a story, he scoots right up front and fires off more questions than anyone.

Adele

Adele is the family's sweet brown Cavapoo, named after Mamaw's favorite singer. She loves every one of the grandchildren, but Rachel and Susanna are her two biggest fans, and they're always the ones she curls up beside when Mamaw opens the Bible.
